Cynthia Nixon
The Sex and the City star (and possible New York gubernatorial candidate!), 51, whose mother recently died after her third battle with breast cancer, revealed in 2008 that she’d had a lumpectomy and radiation for breast cancer but kept it a secret because she didn’t want paparazzi showing up at her doctor appointments. But eventually she decided to become that year’s spokesperson for the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation. “I want [women] most to hear me saying that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself,” she told ABC News. “The only thing to be really afraid of is if you don’t go get your mammograms, because there’s some part of you that doesn’t want to know, and that’s the thing that’s going to trip you up...and have a really bad endgame.”
