In July 2019, Stevie Wonder revealed that he would be taking a hiatus from performing to undergo a kidney transplant. Wonder, who had his successful surgery six months later, has since shared that he’s feeling much younger than 70 years old, reports People.

“I feel great,” said Wonder, during a recent press conference to promote two new songs. “My voice feels great…I feel like I’m about 40 right now and I just thank everyone for their prayers and love.”

Since his release from the hospital, Wonder explained, he’s had nurses who make sure he takes his medication on time. He said he will take his meds for as long as he needs to, even if that means doing so for the rest of his life.

Wonder also addressed the rumors about his health that started circulating last year. “For all the people that have been listening to these rumors—listen, if I’m feeling some kind of way, I’ll let you know,” he said.

Wonder stated that there is no need for misinformation and that he is alive and well. He even joked that he’s looking forward to having a car that drives, so he can drive himself.

“When you believe in things that you don’t understand, then you suffer,” Wonder said, quoting his hit song “Superstition.”

Wonder also announced that he is collaborating with Republic Records to launch his own imprint—a label used as a trademark or brand—called So What the Fuss Music, named after his 2005 song.
