Prince Harry of Wales and American actress Meghan Markle announced their engagement this Monday, November 27, and their first public appointment is slated for a World AIDS Day event, Friday, December 1.

As Attitude magazine reports, the couple will head to the Nottingham Contemporary, an international art center, for the Terrence Higgins Trust World AIDS Day charity fair, where they will meet people living with the virus.

“Prince Harry has spent a significant amount of private and public time in the city and His Royal Highness is looking forward to introducing Ms. Markle to a community that has become very special to him,” the Palace said.

It’s no coincidence that the prince chose to attend the World AIDS Day event. He has been a vocal advocate for HIV/AIDS, a cause that was very dear to his mother, Princess Diana.

In fact, he has taken HIV tests publicly on more than one occasion to raise awareness, and he recently accepted Attitude’s Legacy Award on behalf of Princess Diana, for her groundbreaking HIV/AIDS activism. (You can watch a video of his speech above.)

Prince Harry and Markle’s wedding is scheduled for next May.
